The D.I.F. (Droit Individuel à la Formation) Employee Access to Training

If you are employed by a company and need to develop your foreign language skills for your job, the D.I.F. might be just the solution for you.

The D.I.F. is a training scheme open to all permanent employees (in French CDI or Contrat à Durée Indéterminée) with one year’s seniority within their company. People working on a temporary basis can also access the scheme if they have worked for the same company for a period of 4 months or more during the last 12 months.

For permanent staff the allowance is 20 hours of training per year that can be accumulated over 6 years to a limit of 120 hours.

For temporary and part-time contracts (in French CDD or Contrat à Durée Déterminée), the training allowance is calculated on a pro rata basis of time worked.

It is up to the employee to apply to join the scheme and obtain approval from his/her employer. The choice of training programme is defined by the employer and employee. Should there be any disagreement over choice of training programme, and this for a period of two full years, the employee will receive priority access to a C.I.F. (Congé Individuel de Formation) or Long-term Training Access scheme.

Training generally takes place outside of working hours, but the employee receives a training bonus from his/her employer which is equal to 50% of basic salary (net). If training takes place during working hours, salary is maintained for hours spent in training.

To apply for a D.I.F. print out the Application Form below, complete and pass on to your employer.

PLEASE NOTE THIS A NATIONAL SCHEME THAT HAS BEEN PUT INTO PLACE BY THE FRENCH MINISTRY OF EMPLOYMENT.

Although you do not have to be a French national to benefit from the scheme, please ensure that your immigration and employment status in France are up-to-date before applying.

Other countries may or may not propose similar schemes, you will need to check with corresponding national bodies for more information if you leave France.
